This bike bothers me, a lot. Oh, it’s a very well done bike, a Kawasaki KZ900 given the full cafe racer treatment, with plenty of modern touches like the monoshock rear end, sticky radial tires, and up to date brakes. What it lacks (It pains me to say this, as it is such a nice build.), is a soul.
Nothing on this motorcycle, absolutely nothing, is out of place. Every element melds with the next for a harmonious whole, with a level of fit and finish that would make Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes proud. Unfortunately, everything is refined to the point that there is no individuality, no spark of genius, no element that takes a risk and pushes things maybe just a little too far. It’s all just a little too safe for my tastes.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to take anything away from the skill and pride that is evident from the builder, Santiago Chopper Specialties. It’s just too bad they didn’t take the level of refinement and finish, and create something truly special.
