Fuel BMW R80 STrail

iUU7inBzCag

My love of BMW airheads is well documented here, and here’s another one that catches my eye.  It’s a little strange, really, to take an R80 ST and make a scrambler out of it, since the ST is a GS taken towards the street, so the result is going back to the GS roots.  Kinda going out of the way, I think, but the result looks really good.  There’s plenty of nice details, and you can read about them here and here, instead of me just repeating the info.  What I really like is the tank, from a Kawasaki, and how it changes the feel from a stocker.  I wish more builders would take a chance on different tanks, especially on Triumph Bonnevilles, it’s like there’s some unwritten law that though shall not change the Bonnie’s tank!

Fuel shows that taking a chance can still result in a great effect, and look good at the same time.

Cool Kid’s Cracker Jack

261704_660479237312103_525897401_n

I find this build really interesting, but the paint job leaves me wanting.  It’s not the technique, which was to sand down to the primer to get a worn look, but the color.  It doesn’t work well here, and I think another choice would make this a standout bike.  As it is, the work is superb.  Very few get an all-leather seat and tail section correct, but Michel Szozda of Cool Kid Customs pulled it off.  It’s nicely balanced by the brown handlebars, while the mechanicals are nicely muted blacks and bare metal.

Now if only the tank color was something else…but who cares, it’s a great build anyways!

Zoku Yamaha Thumper

I’ve never owned a thumper, a single cylinder motorcycle.  I’ve had parallel twins, and an inline four, and right now I’m working on getting a triple up and running, but no singles.  This 1984 Yamaha SR400 by Zoku Motorcycles in Australia could convince me to own one.  It’s a very elemental design, with a bare metal/powdercoated tank and blacked out engine and simple solo seat.  It’s got the right look, and I just love the fat look of the Firestone tires!
