Erik’s Yamaha XT500 “Quarter Mile”

DSC02144

This build from Erik in the Netherlands is not my style.  The flat tracker style seat has always annoyed me, as they never, ever, match the rest of a motorcycle.  Now why, you ask, am I featuring this build then?  To understand that, you have to understand what riding is really all about.  You can get hung up on the looks all day long, but it’s how the bike rides and how you interact with her that truly makes a build special.

DSC02143     See how clean this machine is, how little details are finessed and crafted.  It took Erik two years to get this baby done, and his enthusiasm is readily apparent.  This build was a great experience for Erik, and it doesn’t matter that I don’t like the seat.  I see heart and soul, sweat and tears, and all that jazz that makes up a project of passion.  Build what you want, how you want it, and to hell with critics.  If it makes you happy, if you park her at the end of the ride, walk away, and turn around just to stare at her lovingly…    you’ve done good.

Yamaha XT500 Cafe Racer

2004sbm37ws6-xt500

Sometimes, as in this case, one picture is all you get.  I’ve searches the interwebs, but couldn’t find anything besides the photo, but it’s intriguing.  This Yamaha XT500 has modern front forks and swingarm, so she probably handles really well.  The seat looks more like a torture device, but I’ll bet she doesn’t go on long trips!  If anyone has more info, leave a comment!
